This study aimed to assess the prevalence of apical periodontitis in a subset of the population of south-eastern Romania and to analyze the overall health status of the group of patients with apical periodontitis. The medical and dental history, including age, gender, background, presence of smoking, level of education, the total number of teeth present and with apical periodontitis, and the general health status were recorded from a total of 200 patients. The periapical status was analyzed using an orthopantomogram and periapical radiographs of teeth that were diagnosed with periapical lesions by the same dental professional. The periapical status was classified according to the periapical index (PAI), with apical periodontitis being present if the PAI score ≥3. The majority of patients were female (58.5%), with secondary or higher education from urban areas and the mean number of teeth with apical periodontitis was 2.29 ± 1.26, with a median of 2 teeth. A total of 17.1% of patients were smokers, these patients had two more teeth with periapical pathology, and 16% of all patients had general diseases, the most common of which was cardiovascular disease (8.2%). Compared with those without the disease, these patients had a higher number of teeth with apical periodontitis (median = 2.5, IQR = 2-4 vs. median = 2, IQR = 1-3). As a result, this scientific research suggests an association between smoking, cardiovascular disease, and gastritis with apical periodontitis, but no association could be demonstrated between apical periodontitis and other systemic diseases.

BACKGROUND: Locally delivered antibiotics are adjunctive therapies for the selective removal or inhibition of pathogenic microbes in combination with scaling and root planing (SRP) for the management of periodontitis. OBJECTIVE: The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of tetracycline fibers against minocycline gel when used as local drug delivery in conjunction with SRP for treating periodontitis. METHODS AND MATERIALS: This is a pilot randomized open single, blinded trial study comparing three treatment modalities: SRP with topical tetracycline fibers (SRP+T), SRP with topical minocycline HCL 2% gel (SRP+M), and SRP only as a control group. Probing pocket depth (PPD), clinical attachment loss (CAL), and bleeding on probing (BOP) percentages were recorded at baseline, one month, and at the end of three months. The data were subjected to analysis using IBM Corp. Released 2019. IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 26.0. Armonk, NY: IBM Corp. Repeated measures ANOVA was used to compare the clinical outcomes between the three treatment groups, accounting for the repeated measurements at baseline, one month, and three months. A p-value less than 0.05 at a 95% confidence interval was deemed statistically significant. RESULTS: There were statistically significant changes within the groups in all the clinical parameters, including pocket depth, clinical attachment loss, and bleeding on probing score, at different time intervals, with the greatest mean pocket depth changes seen in the tetracycline group after one month (mean changes = 1.4 mm, P < 0.001) and over three months (mean changes = 1.79 mm, p < 0.001). For clinical attachment loss, after one month, the highest improvement in clinical level was seen in the minocycline group (mean changes = 0.7mm, p < 0.05), and the overall improvement was seen in the control group (mean changes = 1.1mm, p < 0.05). The minocycline group showed greater mean changes in bleeding on probing percentage, with the greatest changes after one month (mean changes = 19.34%, p < 0.001) and over three months (mean changes = 26.42%, p <0.001). However, there was no significant difference between the groups. CONCLUSION: Locally delivered tetracycline and minocycline gel are effective as adjuncts to SRP and may improve the healing outcome in the management of periodontitis.

Aim: This narrative review aimed at identifying the existing scientific literature investigating periodontitis and neuropathic diseases. Materials and Methods: A search of the literature published between 2000 and 2022 was carried out in the electronic databases of Scopus and PubMed. Studies in which the eligible articles were mainly published in English were included. Descriptive correlational studies, case-control studies, comparative studies, and cohort studies were also included. The following main keywords were used: "Neuropathic diseases," "Periodontitis," "Alzheimer's disease," and "Porphyromonas gingivalis." Results: This narrative review found that cognitively impaired persons with severe periodontitis had a higher prevalence and incidence of periodontal diseases than the rest of the population. A significant positive correlation of salivary interleukin (IL)-1beta and immediate recall scores involved in cognition was also evident. It indicates that the most investigated parameter was whether there is any common link between periodontal disease and neurodegeneration. No randomized controlled clinical studies were found in the current literature review. Conclusions: Based on the literature reviewed, there is currently no strong scientific evidence to support or discourage the cause-effect relationship of periodontal diseases and neurodegenerative diseases.

Purpose: Periodontitis, a ubiquitous severe gum disease affecting the teeth and surrounding alveolar bone, can heighten systemic inflammation. We investigated the association between very severe periodontitis and early biomarkers of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), in individuals with no eye disease. Design: Cross-sectional analysis of the prospective community-based cohort United Kingdom (UK) Biobank. Participants: Sixty-seven thousand three hundred eleven UK residents aged 40 to 70 years recruited between 2006 and 2010 underwent retinal imaging. Methods: Macular-centered OCT images acquired at the baseline visit were segmented for retinal sublayer thicknesses. Very severe periodontitis was ascertained through a touchscreen questionnaire. Linear mixed effects regression modeled the association between very severe periodontitis and retinal sublayer thicknesses, adjusting for age, sex, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, alcohol consumption, smoking status, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, refractive error, and previous cataract surgery. Main Outcome Measures: Photoreceptor layer (PRL) and retinal pigment epithelium-Bruch's membrane (RPE-BM) thicknesses. Results: Among 36 897 participants included in the analysis, 1571 (4.3%) reported very severe periodontitis. Affected individuals were older, lived in areas of greater socioeconomic deprivation, and were more likely to be hypertensive, diabetic, and current smokers (all P < 0.001). On average, those with very severe periodontitis were hyperopic (0.05 ± 2.27 diopters) while those unaffected were myopic (-0.29 ± 2.40 diopters, P < 0.001). Following adjusted analysis, very severe periodontitis was associated with thinner PRL (-0.55 µm, 95% confidence interval [CI], -0.97 to -0.12; P = 0.022) but there was no difference in RPE-BM thickness (0.00 µm, 95% CI, -0.12 to 0.13; P = 0.97). The association between PRL thickness and very severe periodontitis was modified by age (P < 0.001). Stratifying individuals by age, thinner PRL was seen among those aged 60 to 69 years with disease (-1.19 µm, 95% CI, -1.85 to -0.53; P < 0.001) but not among those aged < 60 years. Conclusions: Among those with no known eye disease, very severe periodontitis is statistically associated with a thinner PRL, consistent with incipient AMD. Optimizing oral hygiene may hold additional relevance for people at risk of degenerative retinal disease. Objectives: This study aims to clarify the effect of ferroptosis by P. gingivalis on periodontal epithelium impairment and potential mechanisms. Materials and methods: The expression of epithelial junction proteins (CDH1, OCLN, ZO-1), FTL and GPX4 in healthy and periodontitis tissues was analyzed using bioinformatics analysis and validated in vivo. An in vitro model was constructed to evaluate ferroptosis by mitochondria morphology, content of iron and GSH, and level of lipid peroxidation, FTL, GPX4 and SLC7A11. The iron concentration was changed with iron chelator DFO and iron supplementation FAC. The epithelial impairment was assessed by protein expression. To investigate the mechanism, si-MYB (a negative transcription factor of SLC7A11) and GPX4 inhibitor RSL3 were employed. Results: CDH1, OCLN, ZO-1 and GPX4 expression was decreased, while FTL expression was elevated in periodontitis tissues. Infected cells showed ferroptosis change of the mitochondria with higher level of lipid peroxidation, iron, FTL and lower level of GPX4, GSH, SLC7A11. FAC augmented ferroptosis and weakened epithelial junction, while DFO exhibited a counteractive effect. Silencing MYB rescued SLC7A11, GPX4 and epithelial junction proteins, which was hindered by RSL3. Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that P. gingivalis weakened the oral epithelial barrier by causing ferroptosis via inhibiting SLC7A11/GSH/GPX4 axis.

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease with the destruction of supporting periodontal tissue. This study evaluated the role of insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2) in periodontitis by inhibiting the polarization of M1 macrophages via the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS)/stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway. IGF2 was enriched in the gingival tissue of murine periodontitis model identified by RNA sequencing. IGF2 application alleviated the expression of pro-inflammatory factors and promoted osteogenesis and the expression of related genes and proteins in a dose-dependent manner in periodontitis. The result of micro-CT verified this finding. Both in vivo and in vitro results revealed that IGF2 decreased the polarization of M1 macrophages and pro-inflammatory factors by immunofluorescence staining, flow cytometry, western blotting and RT-PCR. IGF2 application promoted the osteogenic ability of periodontal ligament fibroblasts (PDLFs) indirectly via its inhibition of M1 polarization evaluated by alkaline phosphatase and alizarin red staining. Then, the cGAS/STING pathway was upregulated in periodontitis and macrophages challenged by LPS, the inhibition of which led to downregulation of M1 polarization. Furthermore, IGF2 could downregulate cGAS, STING and the phosphorylation of P65. Collectively, our study indicates IGF2 can regulate the polarization of M1 macrophages via the cGAS/STING pathway and highlights the promising future of IGF2 as a therapeutic treatment for periodontitis.

OBJECTIVE: To study the relationships of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] with dental caries and periodontitis in a general Norwegian adult population. METHODS: We analysed a subsample of 1605 participants from the Trøndelag Health Study (HUNT) in Norway that had serum 25(OH)D) levels measured in HUNT3 (2006-08) and oral health assessed in the HUNT4 Oral Health Study (2017-19). Negative binomial and Poisson regression models were used to estimate the ratios of means (RMs; for count oral outcomes) and prevalence ratios (PRs; for dichotomous oral outcomes). RESULTS: Serum 25(OH)D was inversely associated with the number of decayed teeth in a dose-response gradient (<30.0 nmol/L: RM 1.41, 95% CI 1.07-1.85; 30.0-49.9 nmol/L: 1.14, 0.98-1.32 and ≥75.0 nmol/L: 0.84, 0.67-1.04, as compared to the 50.0-74.9 nmol/L group, P for trend <.001). Each 25 nmol/L decrease in 25(OH)D level was associated with a 15% (RM 1.15, 95% CI 1.05-1.26) increase in the mean number of decayed teeth. Serum 25(OH)D <30.0 nmol/L was associated with a 35% higher prevalence of severe periodontitis (PR 1.35, 95% CI 1.00-1.83). No association was observed between 25(OH)D and the number of natural teeth. CONCLUSION: The present study suggested that serum 25(OH)D level had an inverse and dose-response association with the number of decayed teeth, and serum 25(OH)D <30 nmol/L was associated with a higher prevalence of severe periodontitis in this Norwegian adult population.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The biological effects of atmospheric plasma (cold plasma) show its applicability for controlling the etiological factors that involve tissue repair. Thus, the study evaluated the effect of atmospheric plasma therapy in the control of tissue inflammation and bone remodeling in experimental periodontitis. METHODS: Fifty-six rats were subjected to ligation in the cervical region of the first maxillary molars (8 weeks). The animals were divided into two groups (n = 28): periodontitis without treatment group (P group), and periodontitis with atmospheric plasma treatment group (P + AP group). Tissue samples were collected at 2 and 4 weeks after treatment to analyze the inflammation and bone remodeling by biochemical, histomorphometric, and immunohistochemical analyses. RESULTS: Inflammatory infiltration in the gingival and periodontal ligament was lower in the P + AP group than in the P group (p < .05). The MPO and NAG levels were higher in the P + AP group compared to P group (p < .05). At 4 weeks, the TNF-α level was lower and the IL-10 level was higher in the P + AP group compared to P group (p < .05). In the P + AP group, the IL-1ß level increased in the second week and decreased in the fourth week (p < .05), the number of blood vessels was high in the gingival and periodontal ligament in the second and fourth week (p < .05); and the number of fibroblasts in the gingival tissue was low in the fourth week, and higher in the periodontal tissue in both period (p < .05). Regarding bone remodeling, the RANK and RANKL levels decreased in the P + AP group (p < .05). The OPG level did not differ between the P and P + AP groups (p > .05), but decreased from the second to the fourth experimental week in P + AP group (p < .05). CONCLUSIONS: The treatment of experimental periodontitis with atmospheric plasma for 4 weeks modulated the inflammatory response to favor the repair process and decreased the bone resorption biomarkers, indicating a better control of bone remodeling in periodontal disease.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Given the potential association between oxidative stress, periodontitis and dental caries, whether dietary supplementation with antioxidants is beneficial for periodontitis and dental caries has been widely reported, but remains controversial. This study aims to clarify these relationships through two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. METHODS: Circulating antioxidants (copper, selenium, zinc, ascorbate, ß-carotene, lycopene, retinol and vitamin E) were derived from absolute circulating antioxidants and circulating antioxidant metabolites. Summary data of periodontitis and dental caries were obtained from two separate databases, respectively. We performed inverse-variance weighted (IVW) analysis separately in different databases, followed by meta-analysis. The robustness of results was examined by sensitivity analyses, including three complementary MR methods, heterogeneity and pleiotropy tests, and PhenoScanner query. RESULTS: IVW analysis showed that elevated levels of absolute circulating retinol reduced the risk of periodontitis (GLIDE: OR = 0.41, 95% CI = 0.18-0.95, p = .038, power = 100%; FinnGen: OR = 0.15, 95% CI = 0.04-0.54, p = .004, power = 100%). The pooled OR for periodontitis risk per unit increase of retinol is 0.30 (95% CI = 0.15-0.61, p = .001, I2 = 40.3%, power = 100%). No significant associations were noted for genetically predicted circulating antioxidants and dental caries risk. The sensitivity analyses yielded similar estimates. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates that a negative causality between circulating retinol and periodontitis risk, and null linkage between circulating antioxidants and dental caries risk, suggesting potential strategies for the prevention and control of periodontitis.

AIM: This study aimed to reveal the unique microenvironment of peri-implantitis through single-cell analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Herein, we performed single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) of biopsies from patients with peri-implantitis (PI) and compared the results with healthy individuals (H) and patients with periodontitis (PD). RESULTS: Decreased numbers of stromal cells and increased immune cells were found in the PI group, which implies a severe inflammatory infiltration. The fibroblasts were found to be heterogeneous and the specific pro-inflammatory CXCL13+ sub-cluster was more represented in the PI group, in contrast to the PD and H groups. Furthermore, more neutrophil infiltration was detected in the PI group than in the PD group, and cell-cell communication and ligand-receptor pairs revealed most neutrophils were recruited by CXCL13+ fibroblasts through CXCL8/CXCL6-CXCR2/CXCR1. Notably, our study demonstrated that the unique microenvironment of the PI group promoted the differentiation of monocyte/macrophage lineage cells into osteoclasts, which might explain the faster and more severe bone resorption in the progression of PI than PD. CONCLUSIONS: Collectively, this study suggests a unique immune microenvironment of PI, which may explain the differences between PI and PD in the clinic. These outcomes will aid in finding new specific and effective treatments for PI.

OBJECTIVES: Periodontitis is one of the most common chronic inflammatory diseases. It causes changes in the biting abilities of individuals. However, periodontal treatment has positive effects on masticatory function. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of periodontitis and periodontal treatment on masticatory abilities by measuring masseter and temporal muscle thicknesses with ultrasonography before and after periodontal treatment in chronic periodontitis patients. METHODS: The patients included in the study were determined by clinical and radiological examination. The thickness of the masseter and temporal muscles of the patients were measured by ultrasonography. Periodontal measurements and treatments of the patients were completed by a single physician. IBM SPSS 20.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY) statistical program was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: A statistically significant difference was found between the values of periodontal measurements before and after treatment (p<0.05). In the ultrasonography measurements of the thickness of masseter and anterior temporal muscles, a statistically significant increase was observed in both rest and contraction values at all time intervals (p<0.05). Muscle thicknesses of male patients were higher than female patients. CONCLUSIONS: Periodontitis negatively affects the masticatory performance of individuals. Chronic periodontitis patients should be referred for periodontal treatment without wasting time.

BACKGROUND: The bidirectional link of periodontitis (PD) and gastrointestinal tract (GIT) disorders has been investigated in previous epidemiological studies; however, the conclusions still remain controversial. The aim of this study was to comprehensively explore the bidirectional causal effect between PD and various GIT diseases. METHODS: Based on summary-level data of genome-wide association studies (GWASs), a two-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) study was undertaken. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with PD or GIT disorders (chronic gastritis [CG], gastric ulcer [GU], duodenal ulcer [DU], gastroesophageal reflux disease [GERD], irritable bowel syndrome [IBS], and diverticular disease of the intestine [DI]) in GWASs were applied as exposure. The primary method employed was the inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method, and several sensitivity analyses were performed to investigate potential pleiotropy. RESULTS: With regard to the investigation of the causality between PD and GIT disorders, the IVW method revealed that there is a causal impact of PD on GU (odds ratio [OR] 1.088; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.036-1.141; adjusted p = 0.004) and DI (OR 0.938; 95% CI, 0.911-0.965; adjusted p = 0.000). However, no significant genetic liability was observed for the causal effect of PD on CG, DU, GERD, and IBS. Furthermore, the primary analysis did not demonstrate a causal effect of GIT disorders on PD. CONCLUSION: This MR study suggests that PD may be associated with an increased risk of GU and a reduced risk of DI, with possibly limited clinical relevance. Further studies are needed to support the conclusions of this MR study.

BACKGROUND: To compare acceptance and preference of topical lidocaine gel anesthesia with articaine injection anesthesia in patients with moderate periodontitis undergoing scaling and root debridement. METHODS: Ninety-one patients completed this randomized multicenter split-mouth controlled study and underwent two separate periodontal treatment sessions on different days, one with a topical intrapocket lidocaine gel application and the other with an articaine injection anesthesia in a different order depending on randomization. Parameters measured were the patients' preference for topical lidocaine gel anesthesia or injection anesthesia with articaine (primary efficacy criterion), their maximum and average pain, and their intensity of numbness as well as experience of side effects; the probing depth; and the dentists' preference and their evaluations of handling/application, onset and duration of anesthetic effect, and patient compliance. RESULTS: After having experienced both alternatives, 58.3% of the patients preferred the topical lidocaine gel instillation into the periodontal pockets. The safety profile of the lidocaine gel differed positively from the safety profile of articaine injection in type and frequency of adverse drug reactions. The dentists' acceptance and preference regarding either anesthetic method studied were balanced. CONCLUSIONS: Instillation of lidocaine gel into the periodontal pocket is a preferred alternative to injection anesthesia for most of the patients and an equivalent alternative for dentists in nonsurgical periodontal therapy.

This study aimed to evaluate the association between dietary carotenoid intake and periodontitis in diabetic patients. Data on diabetic patients were collected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2009-2014 for this cross-sectional study. Dietary intake of carotenoids was assessed through the first 24-hour dietary recall interview. Full-mouth periodontal examinations were conducted by trained dental examiners. Subgroup analysis was conducted in terms of age, gender, the number of missing teeth, cardiovascular disease, smoking, and anti-diabetic drugs. Totally 1914 diabetic patients were included, with 1281 (66.93%) in the periodontitis group. After adjusting for age, gender, race, education, smoking, dental implants, hepatitis, and the number of missing teeth, α-carotene intake ≥55.82 mcg was associated with lower odds of periodontitis than α-carotene intake <55.82 mcg [OR = 0.70, 95% CI: 0.53-0.91, P = 0.010]; lutein and zeaxanthin intake ≥795.95 mcg was associated with decreased odds of periodontitis than lutein and zeaxanthin intake <795.95 mcg (OR = 0.75, 95%CI: 0.57-0.98, P = 0.039). The association between carotenoid intake and periodontitis varied across different subpopulations. In diabetes, dietary intake of α-carotene and lutein and zeaxanthin was inversely associated with the odds of periodontitis, which may facilitate clinical periodontitis management.

BACKGROUND: Periodontitis is a chronic destructive inflammatory disease exacerbated by osteoblast dysfunction. Ferroptosis has emerged as a significant factor that could contribute to the pathological changes observed in periodontitis. However, the impact of ferroptosis on osteogenic differentiation and gene expression patterns of primary osteoblasts remain elusive. METHODS: In this study, osteoblasts were osteogenically induced for specific durations with and without the ferroptosis inducer erastin. Subsequently, cell proliferation, ferroptosis-related molecules, and osteogenic differentiation capacity were assessed. Furthermore, the differences in transcriptome expression following erastin treatment were analyzed by RNA sequencing. RESULTS: The results demonstrated that erastin treatment induced ferroptosis, resulting in suppressed cell proliferation and impaired osteogenic differentiation. Transcriptomic analysis revealed significant alterations in processes such as hydrogen peroxide catabolism, response to lipid peroxidation, and metal iron binding, as well as BMP receptor activity and collagen type XI trimer. CONCLUSION: The ferroptosis inducer erastin inhibited osteoblast proliferation and differentiation. Our study provides novel insights into the effect of ferroptosis on osteogenesis, suggesting that targeting ferroptosis may present a promising approach in the treatment of periodontitis.

Background: Smoking is a well-established risk factor for periodontitis, a chronic inflammatory disease of the oral cavity. While smoking cessation has been linked to improved overall health, its specific impact on periodontal health and gingival inflammation in individuals with periodontitis remains less explored. Materials and Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study involving 200 smokers diagnosed with periodontitis. Participants were divided into two groups: Group A received comprehensive smoking cessation interventions, including counseling and pharmacotherapy, while group B continued smoking without intervention. Periodontal health was assessed through clinical parameters, including probing depth (PD) and clinical attachment level (CAL), at baseline and 6 months post intervention. Gingival inflammation was evaluated using the Gingival Index (GI). Results: After 6 months, group A exhibited a significant reduction in mean PD (from 4.5 mm to 3.2 mm) and CAL (from 5.0 mm to 3.5 mm) compared to group B. Conversely, group B showed no significant change in these parameters. The GI score significantly decreased in group A (from 2.8 to 1.2) but remained unchanged in group B. Furthermore, group A demonstrated a higher rate of smoking cessation (72%) compared to group B (14%). Conclusion: Smoking cessation interventions play a crucial role in improving periodontal health and reducing gingival inflammation in smokers with periodontitis. The observed reductions in PD, CAL, and gingival inflammation highlight the potential benefits of smoking cessation on oral health outcomes in this high-risk population.

Introduction: Chlorhexidine gluconate (CHX) has been still regarded as the most efficient mouthwash. Due to its recognized negative effects, it can only be used for a short duration. Octenidine dihydrochloride (OCT), an antiseptic substance found by Sterling Winthrop in the 1980s, has proven helpful in preventing the co-aggregation of dental plaque microbial invaders without disrupting the typical, healthy oral flora. However, there is very little research on octenidine's effectiveness as a mouthwash for preventing plaque. Therefore, this study is being conducted to examine the effectiveness of mouthwashes containing 0.1% Octenidine and 0.2% chlorhexidine. Methodology: In this clinical trial, subjects were divided into two groups, 60 patients each with gingivitis and periodontitis. Then, from each group, 30 patients were advised to use octenidine mouthwash, and 30 patients were prescribed chlorhexidine mouthwash as an adjunct to scaling and root planning. Clinical parameters like O'Leary plaque index, Bleeding index, Probing pocket depth, and clinical attachment loss were evaluated at baseline and after 3 months. Result: In both the gingivitis and periodontitis groups, the octenidine group significantly outperformed the chlorhexidine group in all clinical metrics. Conclusion: Octenidine showed better results in comparison to chlorhexidine with respect to all the above-mentioned clinical parameters. Hence, it can be considered a promising mouthwash for future therapeutic and research studies.

This study aimed to identify the prevalence and association of periodontitis and pulp stone (PS) along with the clinical variables. This study assessed the cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) records to identify the presence of PS and clinical periodontitis records were used to determine the stages of periodontitis. The Chi-square test was used to evaluate the relationship between study parameters. Logistic regression was used to determine the association between PS and periodontitis. A total of 228 CBCT records were conveniently selected for this study based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Cohen's kappa analysis showed near to perfect scores for both examiners. The Chi-square test showed that CBCT records from the age range 41-50 years, male patients, and stage II of periodontitis prevalently showed pulp stones; however, there were no significant differences observed between the PS and clinical variables. However, gender, involvement of tooth, and stages of periodontitis showed significant distribution of the PS. Logistic regression showed that the stages of periodontitis showed no significant association with PS in patients with periodontitis. Moreover, multivariate odds ratio adjustment did not alter the outcome. Periodontitis is not associated with the presence of PS in the current population.

Background: Despite a huge number of advancements in the medical field, periodontitis still remains one of the most prevalent oral diseases worldwide. Aim: Thus, the primary aim of our study was to evaluate the prevalence of periodontal diseases in patients reporting to the tertiary healthcare setup in Ranchi. Materials and Methods: Based on inclusion criteria, subjects aged 18-60 years were selected and a per forma was filled by the observer. The prevalence of periodontal disease was measured using the community periodontal index, simplified oral hygiene index, and stage of periodontitis. Results: Descriptive variables were assessed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviations, while the categorical analysis was performed using the Chi-square tests. Conclusion: General awareness about periodontal health and regular dental visits should be given utmost importance among the rural populations of every developing country.

Introduction: HSP is arguably the most thoroughly studied self-antigens connected to Cardio Vascular Diseases (CVD) and periodontal disease. Hence, the major goal of this analysis was to determine the amount of HSP60 in patients' Chronic Periodontitis (CP) patients' serum. Materials and Methods: The current investigation involved 100 patients in all. Based on the patients' periodontal and cardiovascular health, the patients were divided. The patients were made aware that this research had no direct bearing on disease treatment or cure. Results: In contrast to periodontal disease, which had a mean serum HSP60 of 59.94 ng/dl, CVD had a mean serum HSP60 of 85.98 ng/dl. When compared to periodontal disease, the CVD increased significantly (P < 0.05, 0.03). Discussion and Conclusion: We emphasize the function of HSP60 in the pathophysiology of individuals with chronic periodontitis based on the findings of the current investigation. Serum HSP60 concentrations can serve as a biomarker for periodontal inflammation. More longitudinal and interventional research with a larger sample size is required to validate the present findings. In periodontal therapies, targeting HSP60 may enhance results.
